Objective
The objective of our CFD External Flow, Thermal & Radiative Heat Transfer analysis is to thoroughly examine the flare radiation emitted from the 200-meter-high Flare Stack at the Oil & Gas Facility. The analysis will incorporate a simulation of solar and flare radiation and relevant flow conditions in the area of interest. The outcome of the simulation will provide valuable insights into the amount of radiation flux received by the air conditioning equipment located on the roof of adjacent structures and its impact on the performance of these units. Additionally, the simulation will evaluate the heat transfer between the outer surface and internal components of the air conditioning equipment.
Conclusion
- The results of the CFD External Flow, Thermal & Radiative Heat Transfer analysis revealed a comprehensive understanding of the flare radiation emitted from the 200-meter-high flare stack. The simulation has accurately modelled worst-case radiative heat flux from flare stack (i.e emergency flaring), Peak Solar radiation (overhead solar direction) heat flux, and it has also accurately modelled the convective heat transfer (between the building surface and ambient) that takes place because of the ambient weather conditions, in the area of interest.
- The results indicated that the air conditioning equipment located on the roof of adjacent structures was exposed to a significant amount of radiation flux. This finding highlights the importance of considering the impact of radiation on the performance of air conditioning units in similar facilities. The simulation also provided valuable insights into the heat transfer between the outer surface and internal components of the air conditioning equipment, which can inform future design considerations and improve overall efficiency.
- Overall, the results of this analysis are crucial for improving the understanding of the effects of flare radiation on the performance of air conditioning units in offshore LNG facilities and can inform decision-making for future projects.
